Description

This bike tour travels around Northern Corsica. This road tour for keen riders taking you around the stunning Cap Corse to Saint Florent, seeing perched villages on steep sea cliffs, unspoilt beaches and great views at every Col. From St Flo, the Corsican St Tropez, head through the unpopulated Desert des Agriates, to Ile Rousse, a busy seaside town, then along the west coast to Porto, before heading inland up and over the Col de Vergio to Corte. From Corte cycle through the unspoilt Castagnicia, over cols and through forests, down to the coast at Bastia, and vibrant city life before heading home after a great ride !

Itinerary

Example itinerary:

 

Day 1 – Bastia

Arrive in Bastia before transferring to your hotel in the heart of the city. Check into your hotel before exploring the town and the Citadelle. Road Bike hire possible in Bastia.

Day 2 – Bastia to Saint Florent

Today you head north along the flatter east side of the Cap Corse, to Maccinaggio, Corsica’s busiest pleasure boat harbour. From here the road heads up and across the top of the cap Corse and over a good couple of cols before dropping down along the West Coast of the Cap. The road winds along steep sea cliffs with stunning views before arriving in Saint Florent, the Corsican St Tropez ! Night in a comfortable 3* hotel. 110km, +1300 m, -1300m.

Day 3 – St Florent to Ile Rousse

From your nightstop in St Florent, you head up through the desert des Agriates, a wild land of hills and maquis, ride along this winding road before hitting the coast road down to Ile Rousse, optional cycling in the hills of the Balagne, high above the coast. 103km, +2100m, -2100m.

Day 4 -L’Ile Rousse to Porto

Setting out from Ile Rousse you are first taking the coast road to the historic Genoese town of Calvi, before heading south along the wild west coast . You enter an area that is a stunner, cols and coastal views at every turn. After a beautiful drive you arrive at Porto and your comfortable hotel for the night. 110km, +1365m, -1365m.

Day 5 – Porto to Corte

From Porto you head up to Evisa along a magnificent road high above the Spelunca Gorge, after Evisa village at 800m, the climb continues through the Aitone forest, then up and over the Col de Vergio before dropping down into the Niolu. The road continues through the Scala di Santa Regina, climbing finally to Corte, nestled in high mountains. 105km, +2370m, -1960m.

Day 6 – Corte to Bastia

Setting out from Corte you head towards the Castagniccia, an area of chestnut woods, narrow roads winding down the mountain. You arrive in Bastia in the late afternoon, explore town and relax in your hotel for tonight after a long ride. 115km, +1650m, -2000m.

Day 7 – Bastia

Relax in Bastia, or head up the Col de Teghime for stunning views over Saint Florent and the Etang de Biguglia, then onto the church at San Michele de Murato. After your ride, return your bike and explore the town and enjoy a nice meal on the Place St Nicolas. 95km, +1650m, -2000m.

Day 8 – Bastia

Holiday ends after breakfast. Extra nights available.

When you book your Corsica cycling holiday, we can reserve a bike for you with a partner rental company located at the start of your circuit. Once here, you collect your bike and pay directly with the rental company or we can arrange delivery at your first hotel depending on the stay.
