Along carefully selected cycle tracks and little roads, make your way over the vineyards of Alsace, across the broad cereal-crop plain, or again through the forests of the Vosges hills.

Description

At each stage you see charming little villages with cobbled streets, dotted with lovely colourful half-timbered houses. You also stay in towns steeped in history, such as Strasbourg, Sélestat and Colmar. And with plenty of opportunities to stop off in wine cellars and breweries where you get a true taste of what this region has to offer… At day’s end you can sit round a table, enjoy tasty local dishes and talk over your adventures with family or friends.

D1 Arrival in Strasbourg

Arrival late afternoon in the Alsatian capital. You might like to enjoy visiting the magnificent cathedral of Notre Dame with its fascinating astronomical clock, or the various parks and museums.

You eat out.
Night in 4 star hotel with bed and breakfast, in the heart of the town.

D2 Ride from Strasbourg to Obernai

41.5 km stage. Total uphill 140 metres. Level 1/5. Approximate time 4hrs00.
First you cycle through the historical heart of the old city of Strasbourg with its typically Alsatian architectural style. Gradually, you will go away from the city and you will drive along the canal to come closer to the Vosges Mountain.You will go through beautiful traditional villages by the cycle path to join Obernai.
Obernai, a partly fortified town, is your stopover point for the night. Birthplace of the patron saint of Alsace, Saint Odile, it’s a superb town to visit, all monuments and half-timbered houses!

You eat out.
Then room and breakfast in a characteristic 3 star Alsace hotel.

D3 From Obernai to Sélestat

25 km with total uphill 320 m – Level 2/5 – Around 2hrs30

30km stage. Total uphill 321m. Level 2/5. About 3hrs 30.
When you leave Obernai you soon return to the vineyards and follow a succession of tracks and narrow country roads through a series of typical small villages.
We do recommend you to take a 2km detour to get to the village of Saint-Pierre, so you may visit the brewery of the same name. Do try the local beverage (in moderation!) before you continue along the route towards Sélestat.

Dinner out and night and breakfast in charming guest house or 3 star hotel.

D4 From Sélestat to Colmar

40km stage. Total uphill 419m. Level 3/5. Around 4hrs.
Today you pass from North to South Alsace along narrow winding roads through vineyards and meadows. There are several chateaux lining the way: built up on the heights of the Vosges Range, those of Kientzheim, Haut-Koenigsbourg and others dominate the valley.
Enter Colmar at a leisurely pace to appreciate the unique architecture of this emblematic town.

You eat out – plenty of choice.
Bed and breakfast in 3 star hotel in the heart of the town.

D5 Departure

Breakfast in the morning before getting the train back to Strasbourg to pick up your vehicle.
The end of a memorable trek along the roads of Alsace.

Your Bike

The hire bikes for our France tours are of good quality and come equipped with bags, bottle clips, and of course safety helmets. Children’s full- and half-bikes, kid-trailers and baby-seats are also available.  The actual make of your cycle varies from one region to another.
